The V-Bar Rides

The V Bar rides will once again be held on the Parker Music Meadows  ranch outside of Westcliffe, Colorado. There will be a 25 miler and a 50 miler each day. There will also be a fun ride on each day.

DIRECTIONS TO CAMPS:

Coming from South:  Come up I 25 get off at Walsenburg and come up 69 thru Gardner to Westcliffe.  South of town follow Music Pass signs…..

 

To base camp coming from Pueblo or from North:

 

From the intersection of hwys 69 and 96; go 4.5 miles south of Westcliffe on Hwy 69 and then go southwest on Colfax (right turn if coming from Westcliffe) for 6 miles.  Follow the signs to Music Pass.  At the “t” go left onto 120 for .7 miles to Music Meadows (Parker) Ranch entrance.

 

From north to avoid high pass between Pueblo & Westcliffe:  come down I 25 to the Springs.  Towards the south side of CO Springs take 115 to Penrose; go west on 50 toward Salida thru Canon City; at Texas Creek tale 69 south to Westcliffe.

 

From west:  take 50 thru Salida; at Cotapaxi take the cut off down to 69; cut off is hard to see unless you know it. At Cotapaxi, you turn right (south) between liquor store and gas station/general store.

Can put horses at Rodeo Grounds ($5 a nite-  WMSC) in the pens behind bucking chutes or by roping chutes

 

Alvarado Campground, US Forrest Service  783-2089 for reservations, for local camping several days before and after the ride.

 

BASE CAMP: Base camp is a large meadow which can accommodate large rigs. There will be horse water and porti potties. Please bring your own drinking water. Basecamp is at over 8500 ft so plan accordingly and bring horse blankets, warm coats and rain gear. There will be a $10 camping fee (regardless of whether you stay one night or four).

VET CHECKS/VETS:  Ute Jung will be the head vet. John Davis is the assistant vet. All vet checks will be in camp. The 50 miler will start at 8:00 am and the 25 miler will start at 9:00 am.
 
MEALS/AWARDS/FEES: We will have an awards dinner on Saturday night when all riders are in. This year Elin will be cooking V Bar Beef for the awards dinner. Extra dinners are $10. The cost of the 25 miler is $55 and the cost of the 50 miler is $75. The fun ride will be $35.
